Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral
The main landmark in Reykjavik is Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral, its tower can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. It's a parish church and national sanctuary. Samúelsson who designed the building in 1937 was inspired by the shapes created when lava cools into basalt rock, he therefore modelled the building on this. Standing at 15m and weighing 25 tons, the huge holy space is pretty unmissable and definitely worth visiting on your trip. It's actually one of the most visited places in Iceland and luckily free to go inside (a small fee for tower access).
Tjornin Lake
Tjörnin lake is one of Iceland's most loved and iconic inner-city features. Most visitors to the city pass along its shore, as it is situated in the city centre next to the Reykjavik City Hall and several museums. If you have kids it's fun to feed the ducks here and for anyone that appreciates the beauty of nature it's a stunning feature of Reykjavik to visit.
Blue Lagoon
You cannot visit Reykjavik without visiting the Blue Lagoon. The unique wonder of nature is becoming more and more popular among tourists. It's the magical geothermal water and natural ingredients (mineral salt, silica, blue green algae) that balance and relax body and soul. The lagoon silica mud gently cleanses and exfoliate the skin too. On arrival collect towels, bath robes and slippers. Bracelets are provided for ordering refreshments when you're in the lagoon.
